Conference calls a waste of time? In 1915, this one made history

The first transcontinental phone call took place 100 years ago between New York and San Francisco

  • Phones used on the first transcontinental call on Jan. 25, 1915, were unveiled on Thursday in a preview of a centennial exhibit in San Francisco.

  • On Thursday, AT&T and California Historical Society officials unboxed the phone used by U.S. President Woodrow Wilson on the first transcontinental call. The phone will be part of a centennial exhibit in San Francisco.
