Fujitsu may bring ID-checking palm scanners to smartphones

Already in laptops and tablets, palm scanners are billed as more secure than fingerprint authentication.

  • Fujitsu demonstrates a prototype 12.5-inch tablet with a stamp-sized palm-vein authentication scanner to verify user identity. Fujitsu hopes to embed the scanner in smartphones in the future.

  • A scan of a palm shows the unique vein patterns that Fujitsu's PalmSecure biometric technology can authenticate to verify user identity when accessing mobile devices and banking services.
