Like most multiplayer action/RPGs, Mytheon is filled to the gills with all manner of slavering beasties and mythological warriors looking for some smack-down. Drawing from ancient Greek mythology as well as its own unique brand of folklore, the game will provide a menagerie of monsters, demons and demi-gods with which to test your mettle. Here is a small selection of the foes that shall cross your path...

“Based on real-world mythologies, we wanted [the] gameplay to occur within a recognisable historical context," said True Games Interactive's Peter Cesario. "With that in mind, players will find it thrilling to battle such epic deities as Persephone, Hades and Circe."

We'll be bitterly disappointed if this giant statue doesn't come to life and try to stomp you, Jason and the Argonauts style.

This blue chap has been dubbed the Behemoth. In fact, the Behemoth is a biblical creature mentioned in the Book of Job. Most sources agree it was probably a hippopotamus. But anyway...

Circe is a powerful sorceress and one of the game's boss characters. Do you have what it takes to save your party's bacon? [You're fired -- Ed.]

A Cyclops on a bridge. Yesterday.

Has there ever been a fantasy RPG without giant spiders?

    ...Or flaming skeleton warriors?

Spiders are part of the arachnid family, which includes scorpions, crabs, great albatrosses and fluke worms [citation needed].

I squashed a spider once, and a mass of baby spiders exploded out of it and started running everywhere. It was gross.

This Ent-inspired monstrosity is known as a Bog Fiend. Ten bucks says his attacks do 'toxic damage'.

Echidna was a half-snake, half-nymph monster from ancient Greek mythology. She also mothered the three-headed dog of the Underworld, Cerberus. (We're not sure why a spiky marsupial was named after her. Any zoologists in the house?)

The Warcaster class has the ability to control other beasts. These minotaur companions look pretty bad-ass. (Hopefully you can sit back and let them do all the work.)

This screen brings Diablo II to mind and makes us all dewy-eyed with nostalgia.

Hades is a boss character, natch. Curiously, he appears to have fashioned a codpiece out of a monkey's face.

Poseidon, better known by his Roman name Neptune, was the Greek god of fish and that. Along with Satan, he is credited with having popularised the trident.

According to Wikipedia, ancient Greek sailors sometimes drowned horses as a sacrifice to Poseidon, which would explain why they are about to trample him to death in this screen shot.

It's on like the proverbial Diddy Kong.

Persephone is another boss character. She might be twice the size of you, but wailing on a woman in a dress still seems a bit wrong...

The King Sentinel looks like a cross between a crab and the bugs from Starship Troopers. Remember the shower scene in that, where all the actors got their kit off? That was awesome.

Mytheon is slated to hit PCs later in the year. For more information, [[xref:http://www.mytheongame.com|check out the official Mytheon Web site]].
