Sony is the latest computer maker to enter the netbook market. Here's what you can expect from the new Vaio W netbook.
The Sony W comes with a 160GB hard drive (5400 RPM) and performs well in the connectivity department with two USB ports, 802.11a/b/g and Bluetooth. Running the Vaio W is a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 processor, the same type used in many other netbooks.
Included in the Sony Vaio W package is a matching color soft case and a USB mouse for those who prefer it. Sony aims at an eco-concious Vaio W series with Energy Star 5.0 compliance, mercury free LCD and packaging made out of 95 percent recycled cardboard.
The Sony Vaio features Intel's GMA 950 integrated graphics chip, and its included battery offers 3.5 hours of life on one charge. The operating system is Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 3.
Sony Vaio W features a built-in Webcam above the high-resolution display (16:9 aspect ratio) and also comes with an integrated memory card reader (Memory Stick Duo/SD). The netbook's touchpad is approximately the same size as the one found in conventional laptops, making on-screen navigation easier than on other netbooks.
