Slideshow: Seven iPhone contenders

The announcement of the 3G iPhone arriving in Australia on July 11 was reported on almost every news outlet in town. So it's easy to forget there are plenty of top-notch competitors already on the market and about to be launched. Here is a small selection of the contenders.

  • Nokia N810 Internet Tablet - The N810 has a TFT touchscreen, user interface, Wi-Fi, good Web browser, 3.5mm headphone jack, 2GB internal memory with miniSD card expansion slot and GPS.

  • RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8120 - The sleekly designed Pearl 8120 includes 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi capability and quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support for voice calls in many global locations.

  • HTC Touch Pro - Features a touch-sensitive control for device interaction, HSDPA and HSUPA wireless connectivity, 8 hours of talk time, GPS capabilities and a 3.2-megapixel camera equipped with video calling.

  • Motorola MOTOKRZR K3 - Features HSDPA connectivity, A2DP Bluetooth profile for wirelessly streaming music, a 2 megapixel camera and is desigined with metal and glass finishing.

  • Apple iPhone 3G - Needs no introduction after the publicity it has received over the last week.

  • Nokia N96 - Features 16GB of on-board memory, a large colour screen that rivals the iPhone, GPS, HSDPA and Wi-Fi.

  • Sony Ericsson W890i - The 10mm thinWalkman phone has HSDPA connectivity, a new multimedia interface and an upgraded 3.2-megapixel camera.

  • RIM BlackBerry Bold 9000 - The latest BlackBerry offering includes HSDPA, 480 x 320 video recording, photo geotagging, 802.11a/b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 (with A2Dp), GPS and MicroSDHC.
