    2.00 / 5

Pros

  • Easy Key
  • Camera is feature rich and decent for the price

Cons

  • Performance often drags
  • Mediocre battery life

Bottom Line

The Y5 is Huawei’s cheapest smartphone of the year, and it’s got the look, feel and performance to match that mantle.

Battery

One of the few silver linings of the budget-phone crowd is that the trade-off for smaller processors, dimmer displays, and all-around fewer luxury features can often result in better battery life. Unfortunately, that doesn’t really manifest with the Y5. It offered pretty close to the average for battery life, usually needing not-one-but-two top ups to make it through a solid day of mixed use.

In PCMark’s Battery Life Test it took just over 9 hours to fall to 20% battery remaining.

The Bottom Line

The Y5 is Huawei’s cheapest smartphone of the year, and it’s got the look, feel and performance to match that mantle. While the camera does come kitted out with surprisingly robust capabilities and picture quality, the price in being paid in performance makes it a hard sell.
