I am the director of a large clothing alterations and tailoring company. This may not sound very high-tech, but it is essential for the business to have the right tools and technology to help increase our business productivity on a day-to-day basis.
Usually, the jobs we get in are quite small, like minor alterations for individual customers however, we do sometimes have to deal with large corporate clients where we do group fittings and tailoring for businesses.
Labelling has always been time consuming for us, as we’ve always just printed our labels with a traditional printer. This means that we’ve got to set up the printer with labels, make sure that the settings are right on the computer, then we will type all the details in, which can be time consuming and sometimes frustrating as a result. When we need labels to be made urgently, we just resort to permanent markers instead, and write this directly on the boxes or on masking tape – this isn’t always the most professional or effective.
Having not used a professional label printer before, my first impression of the
Brother QL-820NWB Professional Label Printer is that it is surprisingly nice and compact and sits nicely on the table next to our regular printer.
To set it up was very easy and I had no problems downloading the program. The whole setup was smooth and quick, in fact, I could print the labels straight away. This worked out really well for our team, as there was no additional time needed to train the rest of my team in the office.
As a tailor I use a lot of different materials in store – hundreds of different fabrics, buttons, hook and eye, threads etc and labelling them makes it so much easier to sort and organise so that my staff can find and put back materials in the right place once they’ve finished using them.
The LCD screen is a great feature as it definitely makes it easier when switching from one setting to the next. I also liked the fact that I can print in both black and red. A handy feature especially when I need to mark certain boxes as delicate or if I want the text to stand out. The labels were also very easy and quick to peel off the backing and placed on packages.
For our business, we often need to courier packages to clients, I need to be able to edit the text for separate labels efficiently, otherwise it’s a very time consuming job. The fact that the labels print quickly and copy changes can be made quickly is a massive plus.
Another perk of the printer is that it can be connected to both Wifi and Bluetooth. This means we no longer have to constantly stand next to our computers or printers to change or print labels. If I need to print a label urgently for a courier pick up, I can easily do this with my mobile phone when I’m out of the shop and one of my team members can simply pick it up from the printer and we’re set.
The longevity of the battery of the printer is also a great plus. I only had to charge the printer once, overnight and it’s ready for use again for the next couple of days.
For me, my favourite features would be the ability for the labeller to connect over Bluetooth and Wifi because like most people, I do a lot of my work on my phone or my tablet, rather than having to sit in front of a computer. I give the label printer 5 out of 5. It’s easy to setup, it’s compact and quiet when printing and to top if off, the print quality is excellent. This is hands down the best printer I’ve used for printing labels.
