The print quality also does not disappoint, it’s clear, bold, doesn’t smudge and the text is perfectly sized.

In the world of events, we are always being shown new ways of doing things and how certain products can help us get from A to B more efficiently, effectively and with the bonus of saving time and money! Personally, I have always been a fan of Brother products; and have time and time again been impressed with new technologies that evolves with the world of events.

For a large scale event, registrations could definitely be the most stressful element of the day. To this end, speed and simplicity is key for this time-sensitive process. Registration is usually early in the morning: people want coffee and don’t want to be kept waiting around while you fumble with a label printer trying to get a name badge printed. Whilst I wouldn’t use this printer for smaller events (under 30 pax – a hand-held is effective enough), however for anything over this number of people, the larger Brother QL-820NWB label printer really comes into its own.

The instructions are clear cut, the program download is simple and the initial process takes no time at all. The insertion of the printing labels themselves is pretty self-explanatory, no hidden screws or slots that you have to search for in order to insert the label tape. The lights are on (always a good sign) and I can print straight away. The ‘wow factor’ is definitely the face on the machine with buttons to help you navigate through the various settings. You have the option to set the time and date, change label size and template settings which helps to demonstrate the diversity this single printer is capable of.

The print quality also does not disappoint, it’s clear, bold, doesn’t smudge and the text is perfectly sized. The label itself is easy to peel off and viola - you have created a name badge onsite in a timely manner which looks just as good as the ones sent to the printer two weeks ago.

A standalone feature itself would be the printers’ capability to print in both red and black. When it comes to event name badges, I usually go for the black text as it is easier on the eyes. However when I am couriering items off to venues and need to mark certain boxes as fragile, the red text definitely comes in handy.

The label printer has both wifi and Bluetooth settings which allow you to connect to a mobile device. As a 20-something year old who has grown up with technology for the majority of her life, it still takes me back a little when I witness the features and capabilities that is possible with this label printer. As I am always on the go, I do really appreciate the fact that I can move from venue to venue, plane (airplane mode is an option in the administration settings) to taxi and still be able to print on the spot!

There are separate instructions which outline the steps involved in connecting your device and it is just as simple as downloading the application from the App Store free of charge. This means that I no longer have to be at the registration desk to print. If I come across someone needing a badge from any other room, I can print the label there and then before instructing the guest to head over to the registration table where their badge will be waiting for them. This eliminates the need to memorise names and having to stop what you are doing to physically walk back to the registration table to print, and in the process ultimately losing all train of thought on the task at hand.

Overall I rate the printer 5 out of 5. This label printer is compact, simple to setup, the use of cords are optional (thanks to the Wifi and Bluetooth printing options) and the print output is amazing.
