Following a five-month wait, Foxtel has made its streamlined IPTV service, Foxtel Play, available to selected 2013 LG Smart TV models.
Foxtel Play is an IPTV service which was first launched in July. It allows consumers to view the company’s service via a broadband connection without the necessity for a subscription to its traditional cable-based offering.
It is available on any Internet-connected PC or Mac, Xbox 360 and One console, and until now, was exclusive to 2012 and 2013 Samsung Smart TVs.
Foxtel Play is available for a base price of $25 per month, which must be used for one of four genre packages (Entertainment, Drama, Documentaries, or Kids). Adding further packages bumps the cost to $35, $45, or $50.
The Sport and Movies premium picks are $25 each per month, but cannot be ordered independently. Not all channels available on Foxtel's cable TV service are available on Play.
A [[xref:http://www.foxtel.com.au/foxtelplay/trial/default.htm|free, seven-day trial|Foxtel Play 7-day trial] is available until December 31, but is limited to live TV and catch-up viewing. Once the seven-day period elapses, users are automatically transitioned to a $25 per month pack.
Foxtel Play customers also have access to the Foxtel Go mobile companion app for iOS and selected Samsung Android phones as part of their subscription.
A minimum broadband connection speed of three megabits per second (Mbps) is recommended for smooth playback. The highest quality video stream is deemed to top out at 1.3GB of data per hour.
The minimum and maximum data requirements for Foxtel Play and Go are as follows:
