Vodafone will add 34 European countries to its $5 a day option for international roaming from next week, expanding on its original availability in the US, UK and New Zealand.
The telco will add a further 34 European countries to the service from Monday, 7 October. Among the eligible countries include Belgium, Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain and Turkey.
The $5 daily roaming offer was originally unveiled back in July, but was limited to roaming in the US, UK and New Zealand.
Vodafone's chief executive officer, Bill Morrow, said the telco wanted to make European roaming available before the Christmas holiday season.
"This is the second step we are taking towards making overseas smartphone use affordable for Australian customers and business travellers."
"We had a huge response when we announced our plans included the US, UK and NZ for just five bucks a day, so we pushed hard to include Europe before the Christmas holiday season kicks off."
The $5 roaming service is enabled by default for customers of Vodafone's new 'Red' plans and effectively allows customers to use their smartphones while travelling as if they were still in Australia.
The $5 charge is ticketed per day of use, and the data, calls and text messages sent in an eligible country are charged according to the rates of the customer’s existing Red plan.
The full list of European countries included in the Vodafone roaming offer are Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey.
Vodafone's postpaid Red plans are priced at $65, $80 and $100 per month, and include 1.5GB, 2.5GB, and 5GB of data, respectively.
