Telstra's MessageBank Plus service for the iPhone
Telstra is finally offering visual voicemail to its customers who use an iPhone, but will charge $5 a month for the service.
Instead of listening to voicemails one by one, the visual voicemail service allows you to select individual voice messages and play them back in any order, as many times as you like.
From today, Telstra customers with an iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, or iPhone 3G can access visual voicemail, known as 'MessageBank Plus' on Telstra. The MessageBank Plus service requires an Apple iPhone running iOS4.3 or later, connected to a Telstra post-paid mobile voice plan. The service is not available for Telstra pre-paid customers.
Visual voicemail was first touted as a key selling feature of the original iPhone back in 2007, but Vodafone was the only carrier to implement the service in Australia in May 2009.
The $5 per month Telstra service charge includes the delivery of voice messages to an iPhone within Australia, but normal charges apply for calls made using the call back function and for call diversion to MessageBank and retrieval from regular MessageBank. International data roaming charges apply for delivery of messages to an iPhone using the service overseas.
