AMD looks to be setting a new bar for itself, announcing a 32-core second-gen Threadripper CPU and more during their press conference at this year's Computex.
"At Computex 2018 we demonstrated how the strongest CPU and GPU product portfolio in the industry gets even stronger in the coming months," said AMD president and CEO Dr. Lisa Su.
"Our upcoming 7nm and 12nm products build on the momentum of our Ryzen, Radeon and EPYC procesors, positioning AMD to lead the next generation of high performance computing in markets from premium devices and gaming to machine learning and the data center," she said.
The highlight of the conference itself was the first public demonstration of the company's 2nd generation AMD Ryzen Threadripper CPU, which boasts a fearsome 32-cores (64-threads total). AMD say that the processor incorporates 12nm Zen+ architecture and will be rolling out to customers in Q3 2018.
AMD's press conference saw several of their OEM partners announce new Ryzen-powered variants. Acer announced Ryzen-variants of their Predator Helios 500 notebook and Orion 5000 and Nitro 50 gaming desktops. ASUS showed off a pair of Ryzen-integrated Vivobooks. HP brought their Envy x360 to the party. Meanwhile, Lenovo announced new Ryzen variants of their Yoga 530, IdeaPad 530S and IdeaPad 330 notebooks. Last but not least, AMD's latest OEM partner, Huawei debuted a new Ryzen powered Matebook D.
The event also saw AMD demonstrate the capabilities of its next-generation 7nm Vega GPU architecture through a demo for Radeon Instinct, a GPU squarely-aimed at data center and blockchain-focused users.
The company say that they are sampling this one at the moment and that they expect it to be market-ready sometime in the second half of 2018.
In gaming news, AMD also announced the imminent launch of the new Radeon 56 Vega Nano graphics card. Full specs are yet to be released for this one but expect them sooner rather than later. AMD say the card will officially go on sale later today.
AMD also announced that Samsung's QLED TVs now support Radeon FreeSync experiences when hooked up to a PC equipped with a Radeon RX graphics card or Microsoft's Xbox One S and Xbox One X.
