Hands-On: We Put An Ear To AudioFly’s 2018 Range

Buying local can often be a point of pride for Australian customers when it comes to groceries, so why not headphones? We sat down and spent some time with Perth-based earphone company Audiofly’s latest range of wireless headphones to see how they stack up.

Audiofly AF33W Wireless In-Ear Headphones

What are they?

A set of Bluetooth 4.2-based (with multi-point capabilities) in-ear headphones that are wired together. They’re sweat-resistant, boast a built-in microphone and come bundled with three different sizes of ear-tips.

“Designed with the busy music-lover in mind, the AF33W is ideal for hassle-free listening without having to compromise on sound quality,” Audiofly claim.

What’s the battery life like?

5 hours.

How do they sound?

Surprisingly good, given the price. There’s a bit of distortion at higher volumes but, for the most part, they hold up. There are better-sounding wireless audio options out there, but at the current asking price, the AF33W are hard to beat.

How much are they?

$59.99.

Audiofly AF56W Wireless In-Ear Headphones

What are they?

A set of Bluetooth 4.1 (with AptX) in-ear headphones with a built-in microphone, IPX4-rating for water resistance and CORDURA fibre-braided cabling.

Audiofly themselves call the AF56W “a crowd-pleaser with astonishing clarity and range”.

How do they sound?

To our ears there was less distortion here at higher volumes than in the AF33W. However, on the flip-side of things, there was a definite uptick in audio hitching and dropouts. When they worked perfectly, they delivered lush and colorful listening experience that absolutely justifies the difference in price between it and the AF33W’s relative price-tags.

Unfortunately, during my testing, I found that the AF56W’s overall track-record for realising that difference in performance this wasn’t quite as clean or consistent as its cheaper cousin.

Audiofly AF100W Wireless Bluetooth In-Ear Monitors

What are they?

A set of Bluetooth 4.1 (with AptX and multi-point capabilities) in-ear headphones with a single dynamic driver, a built-in microphone, IPX4-rating for water resistance and Audiofly’s usual “Audioflex” CORDURA fibre-braided cable.

According to the company, “With rich studio-quality sound and a lightweight, sweat-resistant design, the AF100W delivers the ultimate experience for people that like to move about a lot.“

What’s the battery life like?

5 hours.

How does it sound?

Overall, we’d saw the performance offered by AF100W is very comparable to the AF56W - both in the good and the bad aspects. Music sounded good for the most part but again, there was a noticeable uptick in audio hitching and dropouts here. The problem wasn’t quite as bad as the AF56W but definitely still present - even in indoor environments.

Really though, the reason to upgrade to this over the next model down really does come down to the multi-point capabilities and silicon eartips - which provide much more insolation than those found on the AF56W. That said, it did feel like the maximum volume here didn’t give songs the amount of punch I’d expect.

How much are they?

$189.99.
