CES 2018: Alcatel Embrace 18:9 Aspect Ratio In 2018

Previewing their 2018 range of smartphones at this year's CES 2018, Alcatel has revealed that their entire portfolio will be making the jump to an 18:9 aspect ratio.

“As the global smartphone market continues to evolve, we come into a new year recognising the need to stabilise and transform our Alcatel smartphone portfolio to better serve our customers and meet the opportunities ahead,” said Christian Gatti, Global President Alcatel Business Division and Executive Vice President TCL Communication.

He says that “by modernising our smartphone designs and being one of the first global manufacturers to offer 18:9 displays across the majority of our lineup, we’re able to refocus our efforts at democratising flagship style features and making these experiences accessible to almost any consumer worldwide.”

Over the course of 2017, many of the major players in the smartphone market (from Huawei to LG to Samsung) all embraced the new aspect ratio - sometimes referred to as FullVision - to varying degrees. However, most still offer a variety of phones with and without the design feature.

Teasing the three tiers of their 2018 range - branded as the Alcatel 5, 3 and 1 Series - will also feature things like face-unlock, more cinematic displays and better cameras.

Full details on the range, and which models will be making their way to the Australian market, are expected to be revealed in the near future.

I need power and lots of it. As a Front End Web developer anything less just won’t cut it which is why the MSI GT75 is an outstanding laptop for me. It’s a sleek and futuristic looking, high quality, beast that has a touch of sci-fi flare about it.
