Google buffs the Google Pixel 2's camera with new apps and features

Google has announced a suite of new apps for Google Pixel, giving Aussies even more things to do with the phone's powerful camera.

Augmented reality stickers allow Pixel users to get creative and add virtual characters and playful emojis to their photos and videos. You can add your favourite characters from Star Wars: The Last Jedi or Stranger Things, or shoot a celebratory New Year’s video with AR balloons and champagne.

AR stickers will be rolling out over the coming days to all Pixel phones running Android 8.1 Oreo.

Then, the new Google Lens in the Google Assistant on Pixel lets you explore the world around you. If you’re walking past a landmark in a new city, or looking at a painting in a gallery, you can open up the Assistant on your Pixel and tap on the lens button to get more information about what you’re looking at.

With Google Lens in Google Photos, you can now copy important information –like a Wi-Fi password or gift card code - from a photo and then paste it somewhere else.

Finally, SmartSelect recognises text when you long press, highlights the relevant words, and then recommends the next logical step through a suggested app – for example, it will take you to Google Maps if you copy an address. This feature is powered by machine learning, and it can recognise addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and more.

There are new features on your Google Assistant on Pixel too. Now you can broadcast your voice from your Pixel to the Google Home devices around your house. The Assistant also speaks a number of new languages, including Spanish and Italian.

Google say the Pixel 2 experience will continue to get better over time. Stay tuned for more.

If you can afford the price tag, it is well worth the money. It out performs any other laptop I have tried for gaming, and the transportable design and incredible display also make it ideal for work.
