HTC U11 Plus latest rumours: Release date, price and specs

With so many big hitters in the phone market including the new Galaxy Note 8 and upcoming iPhone X, can HTC compete?

HTC might have struck a deal with Google, which includes moving plenty of engineers, but it still has new phones on the way. The next is thought to be the HTC U11 Plus so here's what we know about the phone's release date and specs.

With so many big hitters in the phone market including the new Galaxy Note 8 and upcoming iPhone X, can HTC compete with a new U11 Plus?

HTC U11 Plus release date

We perhaps weren't expecting something new so soon from HTC but the firm appears to have sent out invitations to an event in Taipei on 2 November.

The U in the invitation signals a new U-series phone and all bets are on a U11 Plus, a bigger brother to the U11 launched earlier this year.

HTC U11 Plus price

We're speculating but we can estimate the price of the U11 Price. With the smaller U11 priced at £649 we expect the U11 Plus to be around £749 but could be more. The Galaxy S8 Plus, for example, has an RRP of £779.

HTC U11 Plus specs and features

If rumours are to be believed, the U11 Plus will come with a 5.99in screen. That would be a decent chunk bigger than the regular U11's 5.5in. The larger display will have an 18:9 aspect ratio and Quad HD+ resolution (1440x2880) matching the LG G6 and not far off the Galaxy S8.

One key question with a screen like this is whether HTC will ditch its BoomSound speakers to get a bezel-free design. We'd expect waterproofing to continue and the Edge Sense sensors.

Internal specs seem to be the same at the regular U11 with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and either 4- or 6GB of RAM paired with 64- or 128GB of storage.

It doesn't look like HTC will offer dual-cameras like so many rivals. Instead, there will still be a 12Mp camera with f/1.7 aperture and optical image stabilisation.

The U11 Plus is rumoured to come in two colours: Brilliant Black and Amazing Silver.
