Huawei go big on AI, announce Mate 10 + Mate 10 Pro

Chinese smartphone brand Huawei has announced its Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro smartphones, which the company promises will leverage AI to kickstart a new era in smartphone experiences.

“As we enter the age of intelligence, AI is no longer a virtual concept but something that intertwines with our daily life. AI can enhance user experience, provide valuable services and improve product performance,” said Richard Yu, CEO, Huawei Consumer Business Group.

Both the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro come powered by Huawei's Kirin 970, which features a dedicated neural network processing unit. They also boast a 3D Glass Body featuring an almost bezel-less FullView Display with support for HDR10 content. The Mate 10 Pro is also IP67 Water and Dust Resistant.

Camera-wise, the two phones tout the same Leica Dual Camera (f/1.6) setup of their predecessors. However, this time, the feature comes integrated with the Kirin 970's AI-capabilities. Huawei say this allows for real-time scene and object recognition (which automatically configures the camera settings based on the object being framed) and support for an advanced AI-powered Digital Zoom function with better Motion Detection.

Both the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro also pack in a 4000 mAh battery with Huawei's SuperCharge tech and AI-powered battery management software.

The two phones also support streamlined output to a desktop monitor, a la Samsung's DeX.

In Australia, the Huawei Mate 10 will be available through Vodafone and the open channel in black from November 15th. It will be priced at an SPR of $899.

Meanwhile, the Huawei Mate 10 Pro will be an Opus-exclusive, available in blue and carry an SRP of $1099.

The announcement comes less than a week after Huawei announced local availability for the Nova 2i.

I need power and lots of it. As a Front End Web developer anything less just won’t cut it which is why the MSI GT75 is an outstanding laptop for me. It’s a sleek and futuristic looking, high quality, beast that has a touch of sci-fi flare about it.
