Rumor: Google may add a Huawei-built 7-inch tablet to its lineup this fall

Nexus 6P maker Huawei is reportedly in the final stages of crafting a seven-inch slab to hit store shelves by the end of the year.

Google may serve a side of tablet with the main entrée of Pixel phones this fall.

According to the (usually very accurate) hardware-leaking Evan Blass a new tablet will be built by Huawei and ready by year’s end. We’re already expecting two new smartphones from HTC to be shown off in early October.

As you can see from the tweet there isn’t a tremendous amount of detail. While 4GB of RAM sounds nice, the chipset, storage options, and price will be key in whether or not this will be a tablet worth buying. Not to mention other factors, like display quality. For example, the thickness and weight of the Pixel C make it a little hard to wield.

The other factor worth noting is Google’s shift in its hardware strategy. All indications are that the company is dropping the Nexus brand and going with Pixel for its phones. The current Pixel group includes the Pixel C tablet and Chromebook Pixel 2, which was recently discontinued. Both of those devices featured top-of-the-line specs and were sold and built by Google.

While for its latest phones and tablet Google may still partner with another hardware maker, there may be little visible indication that they played much of a role. As we hear more from the rumor mill, we’ll be sure to keep you updated.

The story behind the story: We’ve argued before that it’s time for a new Nexus 7. The Pixel C is expensive and the current-generation Nexus 7 isn’t getting Nougat so we’re left without a solid Android tablet that isn’t infested with bloatware and other customizations. Android has a lot to offer on tablets, but the struggle has been a consistent hardware offering in comparison to the ultra-popular iPad.

MSI GS75

As the Maserati or BMW of laptops, it would fit perfectly in the hands of a professional needing firepower under the hood, sophistication and class on the surface, and gaming prowess (sports mode if you will) in between.

MSI PS63

The MSI PS63 is an amazing laptop and I would definitely consider buying one in the future.
