LG's new X Power packs in the juice with a 4,100 mAh battery

It's part of a batch of four new phones marketed towards those who crave longer battery life and a slim build.

LG is making a pitch to those who feel they’re too often tied to the wall to recharge their smartphone.

The X Power is the leader of a forthcoming series of X-branded phones, packing in an impressive 4,100 mAh battery. By comparison, the Galaxy S7 Edge offers a 3,600 mAh battery. LG also says it will charge at twice the speed of other phones.

The phone is part of a series of four: X Power, X Mach, X Style, and X Max.

The X Mach supports the LTE Cat 9 3CA standard, which can produce faster downloads. Not all networks are ready to support it, however. The phone also has a “gently curved form factor,” according to LG.

The X Style has “gracefully curving lines and extra-slim body” for those that are, well, style conscious. The X Max also has a “large display,” although LG didn’t offer any specific details about the size.

The G line is LG’s flagship models, so expect the X line to start first in Asia and Europe, though it wouldn’t be completely surprising if they ended up in the U.S. at some point.

Why this matters: Battery life is an existential struggle. If nothing else, LG has shown that you can pack a much bigger battery into a slim smartphone package. Often times one company’s innovation will trickle down to other manufacturers, so don’t be surprised if you see batteries creep up into the 4,100 mAh range soon.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.
