A Tag Heuer Carrera watch that was presented to Swedish Formula One racing driver, Ronnie Peterson, in 1972 by the grandson of company founder Edouard Heuer, has sold for a record price at the Sotheby’s auction house in London. The 18ct gold watch originally cost 950CHF (Swiss Francs) sold for 225,000 – an increase from $1,335 to $316,000.
The watch is the Reference 1158 which was then known as “the race car driver’s (pilot’s) watch.”
It came with a gold ingot which commemorates the Prix Rouge et Blanc Joseph Siffert award Ronnie won for his performance at the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring that year.
