Tinder is verifying notable profiles so if you swipe a celebrity - it's for real

Hilary Duff, Katy Perry and Leo DiCaprio are self-confessed fans of the app

Verified Tinder accounts will be rolled out for notable public figures, celebrities and athletes, the matching-app revealed in a blog post today.

Tinder, the notorious app responsible for 26 million matches a day, has been a massive hit. The company predicts it will have 100 million users by the end of 2015, including the likes of Hilary Duff, Leonardo DiCaprio and Katy Perry - who will all now benefit from a little blue tick, akin to Twitter's verified status. Users swipe through 1.5 billion profiles daily.

The underlying technology of the app, founded three years' ago by Sean Rad in Los Angeles, California, uses Rackspace's Object Rocket platform - a database-as-a-service based on MongoDB. It also uses the distributor's support service and managed cloud product so it can continue to add new, eager profiles onto its service every day.

As of this time last year, Tinder had a team of 30 working on the app, led by former Amazon Web Services engineer Jerry Heinz.

The app was criticised when it introduced Tinder Plus, a paid-for addition to the left/right dating service. It included 'Passport' for swiping internationally and 'Rewind' for going back if you accidentally swiped the wrong way on potential prospect.

It also announced a plan to charge over-28s for the service in March this year.
