Order the OnePlus One from Australia

Never settle: Don't let the one hour pre-ordering window stop you from buying the OnePlus One

Pre-orders for the elusive OnePlus One open within the week. The use of an open pre-order system doesn’t mean budding owners won’t have to jump through hoops. The pre-order window is only open for one hour, and even then, OnePlus won’t officially ship the smartphone directly to Australia.

The truth is the OnePlus One is a good enough smartphone to warrant this hoop jumping. Paying a little extra to get the smartphone shipped to your front door might be money well spent.

Mail forwarding

There are a couple of ways Australians can place an order for the OnePlus One. The first involves ordering the smartphone from OnePlus directly and employing the services of a mail forwarding company.

A mail forwarding company will accept shipment of the smartphone and then forward it to your desired Australian address. Just be sure to set your ‘billing address’ as your home address, and your ‘shipping address’ as the address provided by you mail forwarding company.

Mail forwarding is a separate service and is therefore an additional cost. A quick look at a couple of mail forwarding companies revealed prices fluctuate from $35 to $100.

Good delivery companies will ship within 4 business days, though others might take as long as fourteen business days. Consider researching different mail forwarding companies if you haven’t given it a crack before. We also recommend reading the OnePlus support forum, which proves an outstanding source of information.

Here’s the dimensions and weight for the OnePlus One, (you’ll need it to calculate the cost of mail forwarding): 30cm x 20 cm x 5.5cm, 600 grams.

Good ol’ ebay is littered with third-party companies offering the OnePlus One. These companies sell the rare smartphone at a premium. Most of the One smartphones on ebay are priced between $400-$500, at the time of writing, and that’s often without the cost of delivery.

Keen One owners should check out Yatango shopping. Yatango shopping, formerly known as Mobicity ahead of an acquisition, is offering the 16GB and 64GB variants of the OnePlus for $479 and $549 respectively.

Yatango Shopping’s price is marginally more expensive than some ebay merchants. The difference is they’re a trusted business with an Australian front. Many tough-to-source smartphones reviewed by Good Gear Guide have been provided by Mobicity and Yatango Shopping, and they’ve delivered every time. Emails constantly inform us of a phone’s whereabouts and the company has an easy-to-use tracking platform.

UniqueMobiles is another grey importer GGG uses to source smartphones; however, the OnePlus One isn’t being ranged by the company.

Pre-sales

Pre-orders for the OnePlus One officially open in Australia at 2AM on 28 October. Pre-orders will be open for an hour only, so its best to jump online and ready your order ahead of pre-sales kicking off.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.

I’d happily recommend this touchscreen laptop and Windows 10 as a great way to get serious work done at a desk or on the road.

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.
