If you fancy photographing Arctic wildlife, Ricoh Imaging has a new Wi-Fi action camera that works in frigid conditions and underwater.

The palm-sized WG-M1, announced Thursday in Japan, brings a few handy features for outdoor photography in a rugged package.

It's waterproof to a depth of 10 meters, shock-resistant from heights of up to 2 meters and can withstand temperatures as low as minus 10 degrees Celsius.

The 14-megapixel sensor and the wide-angle, 160-degree, F2.8 lens can capture full HD 1080p video or high-speed photos at up to 10 images per second. Images can be displayed on the camera's 1.5-inch color LCD monitor.

The unit also has Wi-Fi connectivity for smartphones and tablets. An associated app turns a linked mobile device into a remote control for the camera so photos can be taken from a distance.

That can be useful for wildlife photography, especially when combined with the camera's motion detection feature, which automatically starts recording video when the WG-M1 detects a moving object in its field of view.

It's the first time Ricoh Imaging, which also produces high-end Pentax digital single-lens reflex cameras, has featured Wi-Fi in its line of WG sports cameras.

Weighing 190 grams, the camera has a lithium-ion battery that can take about 350 images or 150 minutes of video before it needs to be recharged. The camera has 100MB of built-in memory, and takes microSD or microSDHC memory cards.

Available in orange or black, the WG-M1 comes with a flat adhesive mount and fits with a variety of other mounts for attaching to a wrist or helmet. It will be available in the U.S. and other countries from October with a suggested price of US$299.95.

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.
