Google wants to get Australians coding

Get your code on

Google Australia has launched a new initiative designed to help produce more Australian software developers.

The 'Start with Code' website highlights the role of computer programming in the digital economy and gathers together resources for aspiring developers. The site has resources for students, parents, teachers and aspiring tech entrepreneurs.

"Wouldn’t it be amazing if the next Tesla Motors, iRobots, Twitters and Googles were founded in Australia?" Google Australia's engineering director, Alan Noble, wrote in a blog entry.

"We believe that, with the right attitude to skills and innovation, we can create an Australia of new, high-value jobs, and in doing so, create a bright future for our talented young people. The first step? Start with code."

The campaign is accompanied by a book titled Australia's Innovation Generation, which was launched in Canberra last week.

The book contains profiles of a number of Australian tech entrepreneurs, including Atlassian’s Mike CannonBrookes, Bigcommerce's Mitchell Harper, Robogals' Marita Cheng and Switch Automation's Deb Noller.

It’s perfect for mobile workers. Just take it out — it’s small enough to sit anywhere — turn it on, load a sheet of paper, and start printing.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

A smarter way to print for busy small business owners, combining speedy printing with scanning and copying, making it easier to produce high quality documents and images at a touch of a button.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.
