Sony's Tablet Z2: A pretty tab that packs a punch

Sony has unveiled the Xperia Tablet Z2, an Android tab so inspired it reminds us of Sony during its former glory days.

Unveiled before a crowd at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z2 represents a fine balance between beauty and brawn. The 6mm, 439g tablet manages to somehow accommodate top-end hardware, and still retain the never-say-die attitude modelled by the Sony Z products that came before it.

The Xperia Tablet Z2 is a 10.1in device that operates on Android 4.4 KitKat. Its 1920x1200 resolution screen might seem inferior to the 2560x1600 resolution screens modelled by Samsung’s NotePro range, but it is by no means a deal breaker.

Inside is a quad-core 2.3GHz CPU, 3GB of RAM and 16GB of flash storage, which can be upped by 64GB if you insert a microSD memory card. It also has a 6000mAh battery, a rear 8.1MP camera and a front 2.1MP camera, both of which can record video in Full HD 1080p quality.

Sony claims the Xperia Tablet Z2 has the same dust and water resistant properties as its smartphone Z2 sibling. This means you can throw caution to the wind and use it in fresh water, provided you go no deeper than 1.5 metres for thirty minutes.

Sony has not yet released pricing or availability details yet for the Xperia Tablet Z2, claiming more will be revealed closer to the date of its Australian launch.

It’s perfect for mobile workers. Just take it out — it’s small enough to sit anywhere — turn it on, load a sheet of paper, and start printing.

A smarter way to print for busy small business owners, combining speedy printing with scanning and copying, making it easier to produce high quality documents and images at a touch of a button.

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.
