Sony's Xperia Z2 flagship takes the fight to Samsung

Sony is making a serious play in the mobile space after showcasing its new flagship smartphone at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Sony’s Xperia Z2 reads like a smartphone without compromise. It features a high-resolution screen, powerful imaging technologies and cutting edge hardware, and yet it manages to deliver all of this in a smartphone that can be used underwater. Is the Xperia Z2 the smartphone that will shove Sony out from Samsung’s shadow and into the limelight?

The Android 4.4 KitKat smartphone is a combination of rich Sony technologies. The screen is 5.2 inches and has a 1920x1080 resolution. Sony calls it a ‘Triluminos Display’ as it borrows some of the technologies found in the company’s revered televisions.

The Japanese company has put to work a similar strategy with the Xperia Z2’s camera. It captures 20.7 megapixel-sized photos and uses mobile versions of the company’s imaging technologies, such as the Exmor RS sensor and the Bionz image processing engine. It’s worth noting the Xperia Z2’s camera can record Ultra HD videos, which puts it up against Samsung’s Galaxy S5 and LG’s G Flex.

Nestling inside the 8mm thin body are some serious guts. There’s a quad-core 2.3GHz CPU, 3GB of RAM and a 3200mAh battery. Internal storage is 16GB, but it can be expanded to 64GB with support for microSDXC memory cards.

What makes the Xperia Z2 unique is its ability to look great and offer these headlining features while being a tough smartphone. It is resistant to dust and can be submerged in freshwater 1.5 metres deep for thirty minutes.

It’s easy to set up, it’s compact and quiet when printing and to top if off, the print quality is excellent. This is hands down the best printer I’ve used for printing labels.
