The smartphone maker said that its popular instant messaging service, BBM, would launch on Android and iOS this summer. Well it's finally got a release date - 21 September for Android users and 22 September for those with iPhones and iPads.
Andrew Bocking, executive vice president for BBM at BlackBerry. "With more than a billion Android, iOS, and BlackBerry smartphones in the market, and no dominant mobile messaging platform, this is absolutely the right time to bring BBM to Android and iPhone customers."
BlackBerry said the BBM app will be available to download for free from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
Carphone Warehouse's franchise stores in Selfridges will be the first UK retailer to start selling the device on 27 September, before it goes on sale across Carphone Warehouse stores nationwide on 30 September.
The Z30 is BlackBerry's biggest smartphone to date with a 5 in AMOLED screen (no word on resolution though). It also features a 1.7 GHz processor with quad-core graphics, an antenna to improve connectivity in low signal areas and BlackBerry OS 10.2.
It also has the largest battery to be put in a BlackBerry (2880mAh) which the firm says will provide up to 25 hours of 'mixed use'.
A price is yet to be announced but BlackBerry did confirm that BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2 will be available for the BlackBerry Z10, BlackBerry Q10 and BlackBerry Q5 smartphones beginning mid-October.
