William Shatner takes on the Gorn again for Star Trek game

Legendary battle between Captain Kirk and lizard alien returns four decades later

The 1967 TV battle between William Shatner's Captain Kirk and the lizard-like alien Gorn is one of the most memorable moments from the original Star Trek series.

It is making a return in Star Trek: the video game as part of a promotion for the upcoming title, which is set for an April 26 release.

While the battle between Kirk and the Gorn took place on an isolated desert planet four decades ago, this time the battle can take place virtually in the comfort of the living room.

In a promotional video for the game, Shatner and a stunt man in a replica Gorn suit are playing Star Trek: the video game when a dispute leads to a fight.

The fight leads to a re-enactment of the actual choreographed punches from the classic TV brawl, originally seen in the 1967 “Arena” episode of the Star Trek series.

While faithfully recreated in the promotional video, the “space rocks” that were thrown in the original TV episode have been replaced with couch pillows.

Paramount Pictures consumer products president, LeeAnne Stables, called Shatner a “great sport” for participating in the promotion and that “Gorn had absolutely no chance of coming out on top this time.”

“What better way to spotlight the adventure and fun everyone can have actually playing as Captain Kirk in the new game, than to team up the legendary former captain himself to play one of his old foes,” she said.

Millions of people have viewed the original fight between Kirk and Gorn on YouTube, with Shatner himself expressing amazement at many people still asking him about the scene.

“It’s 46 years later and he hasn’t aged as well as I have,” he said.

Star Trek: the video game features an updated version of the Gorn as the key foe to Kirk and Spock in an entirely original story.
