HTC One smartphone could suffer stock shortages

Ultrapixel camera could delay HTC One smartphone

HTC's One smartphone could be in short supply due to a lack of parts, according to reports.

The new flagship Android Jelly Bean smartphone for HTC, simply called One, is due to launch this week in the UK but fears of part shortages could cause problems, according to Focus Taiwan. Components for the HTC One's Ultrapixel camera are apparently in short supply. See also: Group test: what's the best smartphone?

"We believe the production restraints that UltraPixel faces will severely limit HTC One shipments," said KGI analyst Kuo Ming-chi.

KGI, a Taiwanese brokerage firm, has slashed its shipment forecast for the HTC One from 4 million units down to 800,000 to 1.2 million because of a 'production bottleneck' related to the HTC One's "voice coil motor (VCM) and compact camera module (CCM) on its UltraPixel camera".

It's not good news for HTC if the reports are correct. The One is the firm's latest flagship smartphone which it hopes will help it recover from a consistent decline in profits.

To make things worse, the HTC One will launch the day after Samsung reveals and launches its highly anticipated Galaxy S4 which will no doubt draw some attention away from HTC's handset.

KGI also downgraded its rating for HTC's stock from 'outperform' to 'underperform'.

The HTC One features a 4.7in Full HD (1080x1920) display, aluminium body, 1.7GHz quad-core processor 2GB of RAM and an Ultrapixel camera.

We don't know if the supply shortages will affect the UK stock of the HTC One. We've contacted HTC to find out and we'll let you know as soon as we here.

As the Maserati or BMW of laptops, it would fit perfectly in the hands of a professional needing firepower under the hood, sophistication and class on the surface, and gaming prowess (sports mode if you will) in between.
