Sharp has announced the release date and price for its largest ever LCD TV, the 90-inch LC-90LE740X.
Throughout most of 2012, Sharp was the go-to company for plus-size LCD screens. The company secured the size crown when it first released the 70-inch LE735X in May, then followed with a premium 80-inch LE940X in late August.
Sony and LG had a temporary, combined victory with the announcement and eventual release of their respective Ultra HD 84-inch LED TVs in December, but Sharp retains the trophy with this latest release — at least until Samsung debuts its 110-inch F9000 Ultra HD LED TV locally.
The LC-90LE740X TV uses a Full HD 1080p, rather than Ultra HD, full-LED-backlit LCD screen, and has a native 200Hz refresh rate. 3D support is built-in and two sets of 3D glasses are bundled with the television, along with a Wi-Fi network adapter. The LCD panel for the extra-large 90-inch television is made at Sharp’s Japanese production plants, in Kameyama and Sakai.
The Sharp LC-90LE740X will be available in late January, for the surprisingly reasonable price of $20,999 — that’s $4000 more expensive than LG’s 84-inch UHD TV, but $4000 less than Sony’s.
