Sony Xperia phones get Ice Cream Sandwich update

2012 Xperia handsets will get 4.1 Jelly Bean

Sony has announced that it is rolling out an Android Ice Cream Sandwich software update to some of its Xperia smartphones.

The firm is providing an update to a number of its 2012 Xperia smartphones with improvements. The Android Ice Cream Sandwich firmware is available for the Xperia P, Xperia U, Xperia Go and Xperia Sola. See also: Group test: what's the best smartphone?

Sony said: "The Ice Cream Sandwich firmware includes improvements to: stability, WiFi, tethering/portable hotspot, camera (capture and playback), NFC and Messaging."

The software update is rolling out now but will take place over the 'coming weeks'. Sony said the availability and scheduling will vary with 'market and carrier requirements'.

Xperia users who have already upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich will be notified of the update and be able to download it OTA (over the air). Anyone still on 2.3 Gingerbread needs to plug their handset into a PC or Mac and use Sony's companion or bridge software.

Anyone on a 2011 Xperia will be updated no further than Ice Cream Sandwich. Sony said: " after thorough evaluation, we concluded user experience for 2011 Xperia is superior on ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich versus JB (Jelly Bean)"

Sony will provide more information about upgrades to Jelly Bean mid-December - confirmed handsets include the Xperia S, Xperia Acro S, Xperia Ion, Xperia P, Xperia Go and Xperia J. The Xperia T will get the new OS in January.

The HP OfficeJet 250 Mobile Printer is a great device that fits perfectly into my fast paced and mobile lifestyle. My first impression of the printer itself was how incredibly compact and sleek the device was.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.
