How to stop unwanted Facebook updates in Apple's iOS 6

How to remove iOS 6's Facebook integration feature

If you are one of the 100 million users who updated to Apple's iOS 6, you've probably checked out some of its newest features, including its expanded Facebook integration.

iOS 6's newest Facebook features include sharing a photo to Facebook directly from Camera or Photos; posting your location to the social network from Maps; and Like button integration in iTunes.

Another new feature is causing headaches, though: the integration of your friends' contact info and birthdays into your Apple device's Contacts and Calendar. By default, all of your friends' phone numbers they list in their profiles (in addition to email addresses) are added to your Contacts, and their birthdays are added to your Calendarwhether you want them there or not.

If you keep your Facebook friends to your closest friends, this update could be convenient. But if your friend list is comprised of friends and acquaintances, it's likely a nuisance: Once these contacts are added, they autofill when you send a new text message or email, and populate your calendar with everyone's birthdays.

Thankfully, removing these two additions from your device is easy. Here's a look at how to do it.

How to Remove iOS 6's Facebook Integration Feature

To remove your Facebook friends' contact information and birthdays from your Contacts and Calendar, navigate to your Settings app and scroll to Facebook.

Inside your Facebook app's preferences, you'll see a few items under "Allow These Apps to Use Your Account:" Calendar, Contacts and Facebook.

To prevent your device from synching your calendar and contacts, turn these two options off.

Note: In June, Facebook discreetly changed the email address that appears in your profile from the personal email address you originally entered to your assigned @facebook.com one.

If you haven't changed this back to the email address you use most often, friends who have updated to i0S 6 will see the @facebook.com email address as your preferred one. Subsequent emails are then sent to your Facebook Message center.

To see which email address Facebook is using as its main contact, navigate to your Facebook timeline, then click the "About" link below your profile picture and information. Scroll down to the "Contact info" section and see which email address is listed. If it's your @facebook.com email address, click "Edit" and make the necessary changes.

The HP OfficeJet 250 Mobile Printer is a great device that fits perfectly into my fast paced and mobile lifestyle. My first impression of the printer itself was how incredibly compact and sleek the device was.

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.
