Synology Showcase winners announced

Three lucky readers picked to review Synology's DS112 network attached storage device

The winners of PC World's Synology Showcase competition have been announced.

Three lucky readers have been selected by Synology to test out a Synology DS112 network attached storage device and write a review for PC World. The winners then get to keep the Synology DS112 as a thank-you afterward. Read on for the list of winners...

Phil Chia will be test-driving a DS112 and sharing his thoughts. As director of Dr Chia & Partners, he'll be using the DS112 for his business on a day-to-day basis. We thought his competition response was great:

"Being able to perform backups from the main server to a secure RAID5 setup removes the need for us to use DLC tapes. Also, being able to update our online databases and web presence by using the built in Synology server apps reduces running costs which are currently external, and simplifies our in-house processes.

"I've already seen the synology Cloud Station in action, and frankly having the ability to "control" our own cloud, without additional cost of say MobileMe (sorry, iCloud) is appealing. Plus backups can be made to OUR logic, not theirs."

William Lancaster, consultant for Logrus Technology, is Synology's next hand-picked winner. He'll be using the Synology DS112 for his office:

"All the benefits of the cloud and none of the worries. My data stays in my office, not stored in some far away foreign land. The privacy policy is what I decide, not some faceless corporation's constantly changing idea of privacy.

"I get all the functionality I need, Cloud storage, Mail Server, Web Server, and more, and I don't have to pay by the month and by the gigabyte for it — I buy and I own it 100%..."

Troy Pieterman, a network administrator for Woodleigh School in Victoria, scores a Synology DS112 for his excellent competition entry:

"This unit would be fantastic for a syslog server as a dedicated appliance. I would also like to test out the IP camera functionality and WebDAV for iPad users."

Synology thanks the three winners for their excellent answers, and would like to thank every entrant in the competition — it was a very difficult job for them to pick the three best responses.

It really doesn’t get more “gaming laptop” than this.

MSI GS75

As the Maserati or BMW of laptops, it would fit perfectly in the hands of a professional needing firepower under the hood, sophistication and class on the surface, and gaming prowess (sports mode if you will) in between.

The MSI PS63 is an amazing laptop and I would definitely consider buying one in the future.

Brother RJ-4230B

This small mobile printer is exactly what I need for invoicing and other jobs such as sending fellow tradesman details or step-by-step instructions that I can easily print off from my phone or the Web.
