iPhone 5 goes up for pre-order

Chinese sellers aiming to cash in on hyped iPhone 5

Apple hasn't announced the iPhone 5, if that's what it will be called, but pre-orders are being taken for the smartphone in China.

Sellers on Chinese website Taobao are offering the illustrious device prices well over $1,000 complete with images and supposed specifications. Unsurprisingly the sellers do not promise when the phone will arrive. See also: iPhone 5 release date, specs and rumour round-up.

According to Reuters the sellers plan to purchase an iPhone 5 in the US or Hong Kong when it goes on sale and bring it back to China. It is thought that Apple will announce the iPhone 5 later this year with iOS 6, possibly in September.

Despite being potentially months away from launch an overwhelming amount of detail has been leaked and rumoured. One listing on Taobao claims the iPhone 5 will have a 3.4in screen with an 800 x 1280 resolution. However a lot of rumours have said the iPhone 4S follow-up will have a larger screen, between 4in and 5in.

Some listings use the iPhone 5 leaked images which were discovered to be faked in 3D modelling software.

All eyes are on Apple awaiting the iPhone 5 launch which will take on flagship Android devices like the Samsung Galaxy S3.
