HTC has today announced that the first 4G-capable Windows Phone, the Titan 4G, will go on sale through Telstra next Tuesday 29 May.

The HTC Titan 4G will be just the third 4G-capable smartphone in Australia sold by Telstra, alongside the already released HTC Velocity 4G and the Samsung Galaxy S II 4G.

The HTC Titan 4G (previously thought to be called the Titan II 4G) is a successor the the original Titan, a phone that wasn't released in Australia. Its key feature, aside from working on Telstra's 4G network, is a 16-megapixel camera which snaps photos at a resolution of 4640x3480 pixels.

"We were the first company to launch Australia's first 4G smartphone - the HTC Velocity 4G - and we are very proud to have chalked up another first by introducing Australia’s first 4G-enabled Windows Phone, the HTC Titan 4G," said Ben Hodgson, Country Manager, HTC Australia and New Zealand.

"We have already seen how 4G speeds improve the smartphone experience and when you include the benefits of an easy user interface, a 16 megapixel camera and all the great Microsoft applications, you have a really compelling smartphone," he continued.

The Titan 4G will be just the fourth Windows Phone HTC has sold in Australia since the platform launched back in 2010. The company brought to market the 7 Mozart (Telstra) and the 7 Trophy (Vodafone) way back in October 2010, while the HD 7 (Telstra) landed in March 2011.

The HTC Titan 4G runs the latest version of Microsoft's Windows Phone 7.5 OS, has a 4.7in SLCD display with a resolution of 480x800 and is powered by a 1.5GHz, single core processor. The Titan 4G is 13mm thick and 132mm long making it one of the largest phones on the market — sans the half-smartphone, half-tablet Galaxy Note. It has 16GB of internal memory with no memory card slot for expansion, while the battery is non-removable due to the aluminium design.

The HTC Titan 4G will be available to purchase through Telstra stores and online for $0 upfront on the $79 Freedom Connect Plan which includes $800 worth of calls and MMS messages, unlimited SMS messages and 2GB of data per month. The phone is also available on a range of Telstra business plans.

If you can afford the price tag, it is well worth the money. It out performs any other laptop I have tried for gaming, and the transportable design and incredible display also make it ideal for work.
