Samsung's next flagship Android smartphone, the Galaxy S III, may be officially unveiled in March and will be just 7mm thick, according to the latest rumours.

French Web site Frandroid reports that Samsung will be holding a media event in France on 22 March to unveil a new product. While it has not specifically stated the event will be related to the Galaxy S III, it is a probable chance given that Samsung has already confirmed the hotly-anticipated device won't be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona.

In a worldwide media release last week, Samsung stated: "The successor to the Galaxy S II smartphone will be unveiled at a separate Samsung-hosted event in the first half of the year, closer to commercial availability of the product."

The Frandroid report follows yesterday's ETnews piece claiming that Samsung is focusing its resources on reducing the size of internal components in order to make the Galaxy S III just 7mm thick. In comparison, the Galaxy S II is 8.5mm thick, while Apple's iPhone 4S measures 9.3mm. Motorola's RAZR, which measures 7.1mm at its thinnest point, is currently the world's thinnest smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy S III is expected to feature a 4.5 or 4.6in 720p Super AMOLED Plus display, a 1.8GHz dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM and a 12-megapixel camera. It is a successor to the Galaxy S II, currently one of the most popular Android smartphones in the world.
