Samsung upgrades Galaxy Ace with more memory, faster processor

The company starts 2012 with a new midrange model, and more phones are on the way

Samsung Electronics has launched the Android-based Galaxy Ace Plus, which has more memory, a faster processor and a slightly larger screen compared to its predecessor, the company said on Thursday.

The Galaxy Ace Plus is powered by a 1GHz processor, compared to an 800MHz processor in the original Ace model. Performance will also be helped by roughly twice as much RAM; the new model has 512MB for applications to use.

The screen has the same resolution (480 by 320 pixels), but has grown from 3.5 inches to 3.65 inches, according to Samsung's spec sheets.

The Galaxy Ace Plus will be available in Russia starting this month, and will then be gradually rolled out in Europe, Latin America, parts of Asia, the Middle East, Africa and China. The company didn't provide any details on what it will cost.

The Ace Plus may be the first Galaxy phone Samsung has launched in 2012, but it won't be the last. For example, the company is expected to introduce a third iteration of the Galaxy S later this year.

The Galaxy S III is rumored to have with a Super AMOLED Plus HD display at 1280-by-720 pixels, a quad-core processor and a 12-megapixel camera.

As the Maserati or BMW of laptops, it would fit perfectly in the hands of a professional needing firepower under the hood, sophistication and class on the surface, and gaming prowess (sports mode if you will) in between.
