Google Android Ice Cream Sandwich: coming soon to LG phones

LG has today confirmed that three of its current Android phones — the Optimus 2X, the Optimus Black, and the Optimus 3D — will be upgraded to the latest 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" version of Google's Android operating system in the near future.

Android 4.0, nicknamed Ice Cream Sandwich, was announced by Google in October. It first shipped with Samsung's Galaxy Nexus and is described by Google as "the most advanced version of Android to date."

Ice Cream Sandwich has a completely new user interface that combines some features from Google's Honeycomb platform for tablets. It also adds a number of new elements like a standard typeface called "Roboto" in a bid to create a more uniform look and feel.

Android software updates have always been a point of confusion, but LG Australia has reacted quickly to confirm that its Optimus 2X, Optimus Black, and Optimus 3D Android phones will all receive the Ice Cream Sandwich update. However, LG hasn't confirmed when the phones will receive the update: a concrete timeline will be announced in December.

"LG confirms today that the Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich OS) will be initially available for the following high-end LG smartphones which were introduced this year: Optimus 2X, Optimus Black, Optimus 3D," the company said in a statement. "We are also continuing to evaluate the Android 4.0 (ICS) OS to determine whether it is compatible with the functionality, features and performance of other LG smartphones to make the software available on as many LG smartphones as possible."

"In December this year, the forthcoming upgrade schedule and additional specific models for the ICS OS upgrade will be posted on www.lg.com.au and LG's Facebook page.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.
