Delicious owner sets up user forum as problems persist

Avos, which acquired Delicious from Yahoo, is scrambling to fix many bugs after the site's relaunch last week

Users of Delicious now have another venue to report problems and seek information about the bug-ridden relaunch of the social bookmarking site.

Avos, the company that bought Delicious from Yahoo back in April and relaunched it early last week, has unveiled a discussion forum where users and company officials can interact about support issues.

The new version of Delicious went live on Sept. 26, triggering an immediate outcry from users of the site, who complained about malfunctioning and missing features and data.

Rankling them even more was Avos' decision to shut down the Delicious support discussion forum at a time when many users were urgently in need of communicating with the company.

Avos offered various venues for users to post comments and communicate with the company, including Delicious' Facebook page, its main Twitter account, a support-specific Twitter account and a support blog called Delicious Beta Status.

However, Avos has now decided to also offer a support discussion forum.

"We recognize that the Delicious re-launch has been frustrating for many previous users, and want to be as transparent as possible in addressing the feedback and complaints we've received during our beta period," the company wrote in a blog post. "In order to deliver more effective customer service and help people track our progress on resolving issues from the transition, we've introduced a new Delicious Forum."

"The Forum will let you communicate directly with Delicious employees, confirm whether an issue has already been reported, and exchange tips and tricks with the whole community," the blog post reads.

Delicious, founded in 2003, was a pioneering Web 2.0 site, along with Flickr and others, which helped popularize content tags, user-generated content and online community sharing and collaboration.

Specifically, Delicious took the task of bookmarking sites, until then limited to desktop browsers, and offered it as a Web-hosted application, so users could access their bookmarks online and share them with others.

Yahoo acquired the company in 2005 but didn't develop it much. Rumors that Delicious would be shut down emerged from time to time, and were particularly loud at the end of last year.

That's why users generally rejoiced when Avos, which is run by YouTube co-founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen, bought Delicious from Yahoo. However, the Delicious relaunch has been more a cause for concern than a reason to celebrate for users.

Avos introduced new features for Delicious, including one called Stacks, which are described as "collections of links that you can share," akin to Web playlists, but the attention has been mostly on what's not working right.

The company has been scrambling to address the bugs, which at launch included missing bookmarks and tags, broken browser extensions and eliminated features for managing bookmark tags.
