Twitter adds photo galleries to profiles

Images users have shared will be consolidated on a new gallery section of their profiles

As it continues bulking up the feature set of its previously minimalist site, Twitter has started adding an image-gallery section in user profiles.

The new gallery section will contain thumbnails of all the images a user has included on Twitter posts using either the site's native photo upload functionality or third-party photo sharing services like yFrog and Twitpic, according to the company.

To assemble the initial gallery, Twitter will round up all the images a user has posted since Jan. 1, 2010. The maximum number of images in a gallery is 100, and they will be arranged in chronological order.

Images can be viewed as medium-size thumbnails on a grid or as smaller thumbnails on a filmstrip with a large version of the latest image displayed below.

All images included on Twitter posts will be included on the user's gallery section. To remove an image from the gallery, the message that contains it needs to be deleted.

Videos shared on Twitter will not be included in the new image gallery, which Twitter started to roll out on Monday. It's not clear when the image gallery will be available to all users.
