Programmers run DOOM on a calculator

Texas Instruments graphing calculator running a ported version of the original DOOM game

An enterprising group of coders has ported a version of DOOM to a Texas Instruments graphics calculator. The nDOOM port runs, albeit with occasional crashes, in greyscale on the TI-Nspire series of calculators.

The founder of the Omnimaga graphics calculator programming group posted the video on YouTube on 16 February — since then it has garnered almost half a million views. Omnimaga users continue to refine the game's controls and coding for various models of the Texas Instruments Nspire family of calculators.

A post on Omnimaga paraphrases the 1993 DOOM press release that stated id Software's expectations that the game would distract business employees worldwide: “In 2011, we fully expect DOOM to be the number one cause of decreased productivity in schools around the world.”

Graphing calculators from TI and other companies have long been used to play games.
