Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo preview: The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo has an HDMI-out port for connection to the latest high definition TVs

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play may have received most of the attention so far this year, but Sony Ericsson is intent on expanding the entire XPERIA range of Android phones. The latest handset is the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo, which is geared towards entertainment and has a built-in HDMI-out port.

Featuring a similar design to Sony Ericsson's disappointing Vivaz smartphone, the XPERIA Neo is claimed to offer an "exceptional multimedia experience." The Android-powered smartphone uses Sony's Bravia graphics engine in order to produce smoother video playback, and has an Exmor R camera sensor that should take better photographs in dim light. The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo also has a built-in HDMI-out port, allowing the phone to connect to a high-definition television to view multimedia content.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo smartphone features a 3.7in display with a resolution of 854x480, an 8-megapixel rear camera that doubles as a 720p HD video recorder, and a 2-megapixel front camera for video calls. The XPERIA Neo is powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and has 1GB of RAM but strangely just 320MB of internal memory; there is a microSD card slot for extra storage.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo Android phone is constructed of glossy plastic and features a curved design. It runs the 2.3 Gingerbread version of Google's Android platform.

Telstra has confirmed it will exclusively launch the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo Android phone in Australia in the "first half of 2011". Pricing has yet to be announced.

If you can afford the price tag, it is well worth the money. It out performs any other laptop I have tried for gaming, and the transportable design and incredible display also make it ideal for work.
