Kenya Police website hacked again

In what is an ironic turn of events, a criminal has infiltrated the Kenya Police website at some point on Tuesday, January 4. The Kenya Police website was taken over by a cyber criminal, commonly referred to as a hacker.

The hacker gained entry into the website on Tuesday afternoon and defaced the front page with a message dedicating his feat to Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook's CEO. The hacker also updated the title of the page to read "I'm CEO BITCH" .

After several hours, the site administrator seemed to momentarily gain control of the situation, as the hacker took over again and updated the website saying that "'We can do this all night". Later in the evening, the Police seemed to have finally gained control of their website as the default Apache Fedora page replaced the hacked page.

At the same time, the hacking kicked off a popular topic by Kenyan Twitter users. Using the hash tag #kenyapolicepassword, Kenyans on Twitter attempted to guess what the password of the server could be.

The Kenya Police website is no stranger to getting hacked, and has been a popular target for hackers resulting in several annual hackings. The Administration Police, another branch of the Kenya Police, has also been a target of hacking, getting hacked at least twice in the last six months.

Other government websites have also been popular hacking targets. This raises the question about the safety of data held by government as the government and its agencies continue to adopt e-government strategies.

Update: The website was hacked again by a different hacker who defaced the website with the message: "Stop the fuss you are not a real hacker! The site is un-protected!" . This was then shortly replaced again shortly by the default front page.
