Lenovo's ThinkPad set to reach 60 million units sold

Lenovo also announces NVIDIA Optimus technology for its latest ThinkPad models

Notebook and PC manufacturer Lenovo today announced that its popular ThinkPad laptop range will reach 60 million sales this month.

First launched in 1992 under former owner IBM, the ThinkPad notebook range has also surpassed two thousand designs. It currently sells at the rate of 14 units per minute and Lenovo expects the 60 million target to be broken in the next few weeks.

Lenovo also announced that it will increase the graphics performance of certain ThinkPad models by adding NVIDIA Optimus graphics technology to its T510, T410 and T410s laptops. Optimus is claimed to be able to achieve 33 per cent greater battery life over ThinkPad models that use discrete-only graphics or switchable graphics.

"New technologies like NVIDIA Optimus are making ThinkPads even smarter," said Rene Haas, general manager, Notebook Products, NVIDIA. "Visual content is the most popular and important form of data today, and we've built the NVIDIA NVS 3100M graphics processor to be the perfect processor for the task."

Pricing for these models begins at $3099 for the T510, $3149 for the T410 and $3549 for the T410s. They are currently available from Lenovo's Web site.
