Panasonic is launching its own handheld console, the Jungle, but will it topple the dominance of the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP?
One of the drawcards of the Jungle is that it will be specifically tailored for online games.
“All we can say for now is that this mean little machine features a kick ass display, touch pad, keyboard, and other gaming controls that we’ll be saying more about soon,” the official Jungle Web site reads.
Details of the device are still scarce, but judging from some of the pictures floating around the Internet, it appears to have a clamshell design, along with a D-pad, control buttons, a mini-keyboard and a touchpad. Several reports also claim it uses a Linux-based OS. Battlestar Galactica Online, a browser-based MMO, is slated to be one of the first games available on the handheld.
Panasonic isn’t new to making consoles but having manufactured one of the biggest failures in console history – the 3DO – the vendor doesn’t exactly have a good reputation in the video games world.
But let’s not pass judgement until more information flows in.
