iiNet scores NBL naming rights

iiNet NBL Championship sponsorship starts in October

Basketball Australia announced yesterday that Internet service provider iiNet will be the naming rights partner for the National Basketball League. The sponsorship will see the competition known as the iiNet NBL Championship.

The agreement, which begins on 15 October, will see iiNet become the major sponsor for the sport until the end of the 2012/13 season.

"The partnership with iiNet gives the NBL competition an incredibly strong platform for growth," said Basketball Australia's chief officer, Larry Sengstock.

iiNet chief sales and marketing officer, Sam McDonagh, said that the rapidly growing Australian ISP was a perfect fit for the competition.

"We know what it's like to have big ambitions, iiNet started in a garage to become the leading challenger for internet services in Australia, so we’re keen to take basketball in Australia to the next level," he said in a media release.

The iiNet deal isn't the first time the ISP has sponsored a sporting organisation. Ozemail, which was acquired by iiNet in 2005, sponsored V8 Supercars racing team Brad Jones Racing from 2000 to 2004.

As the Maserati or BMW of laptops, it would fit perfectly in the hands of a professional needing firepower under the hood, sophistication and class on the surface, and gaming prowess (sports mode if you will) in between.
