Facebook targets face-tagging in photos

It's testing a new feature intended to simplify identifying people in pictures

Facebook, whose members upload more than 100 million photos every day, is testing a feature designed to streamline and increase the tagging of people in pictures.

When a photo is uploaded, Facebook will now detect the presence of people in it and prompt the user to identify them by name, one by one, a process that until now has been manual.

"With this new feature, tagging is faster since you don't need to select a face. It's already selected for you, just like those rectangles you see around your friends' faces when you take a photo with a modern digital camera. All that's left for you to do is type a name and hit enter," wrote Sam Odio, Facebook photo product manager, in a blog post on Thursday.

More improvements to Facebook's photo management and sharing features are in the works, according to Odio. Uploading photos is a very popular activity on Facebook -- about 99 percent of its active users have posted photos on the site.

It’s easy to set up, it’s compact and quiet when printing and to top if off, the print quality is excellent. This is hands down the best printer I’ve used for printing labels.
