NetComm today launched 'MyZone', a mobile 3G Wi-Fi router that will initially be sold exclusively through official Apple retail stores.

The NetComm MyZone — touted by the company as an ideal accessory for the newly launched Apple iPad tablet — is a portable, wireless router that uses 3G connectivity through a standard SIM card to deliver an Internet connection that can be shared with up to 10 devices.

Powered by a lithium-ion battery that NetComm says will provide four to six hours of use, the MyZone is the same size as a credit card and has been designed to slip easily into a pocket or bag.

Danny Morrison, general manager of NetComm Australia, said the MyZone is very cost-effective for home and business users and is a "natural complement for the iPad." "We have maximised battery life and simplified the UI, making it easy for non-technical people to set it up."

The NetComm MyZone charges via a USB connection or the included AC adapter, and does not require the installation of any software to operate.

The device is compatible with all Australian telcos, including Telstra's 850MHz Next G network, but will not operate on Vodafone and Optus' new 900MHz network, instead using the standard 2100MHz networks for these carriers.

The NetComm MyZone is available today from all Apple retail stores and Apple's online store. The device will be sold exclusively in Apple Stores for eight weeks; following this it will be available through NetComm's regular retail channels including Harvey Norman and Officeworks.

The MyZone can be purchased for $299 outright without being locked into a contract. NetComm says it expects the MyZone to eventually be bundled with a carrier data plan in Australia, similar to those offered for 3G USB modems.

It’s easy to set up, it’s compact and quiet when printing and to top if off, the print quality is excellent. This is hands down the best printer I’ve used for printing labels.
