iiNet plays its FetchTV PVR against Foxtel and TiVo

FetchTV takes on competitors like TiVo and Foxtel iQ

Subscription TV provider FetchTV has announced prices for its video on demand service. Subscribers to the upcoming $30 per month service will gain access to all Australian digital free-to-air channels, as well as a selection of subscription TV content delivered over broadband IPTV including programming from MTV and National Geographic.

iiNet will be the first Australian Internet service provider to offer the service; it is currently trialling the program with selected customers. The FetchTV service will not meter downloads, bypassing download caps on broadband connections. The FetchTV set-top box comes loaded with a 750GB internal hard drive that should store 770 hours of programming, although only 330 hours is available for users to record with using the box's three internal digital TV tuners.

FetchTV allows for pausing of live TV and other features similar to current PVRs like TiVo and Foxtel iQ. The set-top box offers a few extras including social networking access and minigames, as well as purchasable pay-per-view content. FetchTV CEO Scott Lorson has said that further content like foreign language video packages will be available in coming months.
