TomTom brings free online route planner to Australia

TomTom Route Planner incorporates IQ Routes and Map Share technologies seen in the company's GPS units

TomTom has launched a free online route planner for Australians. The service lets users plan a journey and offers an estimate of how long the trip will take.

The TomTom Route Planner incorporates the IQ Routes and Map Share technologies previously employed in the company's GPS units. IQ Routes uses real-life user data to judge a route's efficiency (instead of using a maximum possible speed method). Map Share lets users share map corrections.

“The introduction of the online route planner in Australia marks an important step in our strategy to make award-winning navigation available to all users, regardless of the platform that is used,” said TomTom’s Chris Kearney. “Users that do not have a navigation device can now benefit from our high quality route planning before starting their journey, giving them a chance to plan their day better than ever before.”
